3 Ways to Improve your Digital Marketing Strategy in 2019

In 2018, we saw several innovative digital marketing strategies take off—and several preventative measures be put in place. To name a few: chatbots, Instagram Stories, Facebook Live, and user-generated content, plus GDPR and changes in targeted advertising after Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Now with 2019 quickly approaching, it’s time to think of how you can amp up your digital marketing strategy and make it your strongest year yet!

A lot of the strategies that did well in 2018 still apply in 2019. Here are three strategies that you can implement this upcoming year:

1. Automate communication online with chatbots

Chatbots are popular in several industries—real estate, customer service, entertainment, health, and more. As Entreprenuer.com notes, “They use deep learning to recognize data, speech, and patterns and provide accurate results every time they face a similar query. And even better—chatbots are set to become more lifelike, thanks to Natural Language Programming (NLP).” By screening customer queries before sending them to employees, chatbots save companies time and money.

2. Prioritize video marketing

With Facebook Live, IGTV, and other video platforms, video has continued to be popular in 2018. “Plus, when customers watch a video on your website, Google interprets that as you providing relevant information, pushing you up the search results,” Entreprenuer.com says.

3. Use native advertising

Native advertising is paid content, such as sponsored posts, infographics, and videos. You see them on news sites like Fast Company, CNN, Buzzfeed, and Forbes, or on blogs like Apartment Therapy. They blend in with the website they’re on and are usually enjoyable to read.

“Your marketing efforts are more likely to succeed since you’re not disrupting the user experience,” Entreprenuer.com states. “According to a Sharethrough and IPG Media Lab survey, out of 4,770 consumers, nearly 1 in 3 said they would share a native ad, while less than 1 in 5 said they would share a banner ad—making it a strategy must-have for 2019.”

What trends have you tried in 2018 or are planning to try in 2019? Have you tried any of these that actually ended up not going well (like chatbots going rogue or sponsored content that ended up being a flop)? Let us know in the comments!
