Digital Marketing Trends in 2021

What does the future of digital marketing hold? If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that trends will continue to evolve as society does. This time last year, Zoom was not yet a verb and TikTok dances weren't a thing.

In 2021, companies will have to continue to work hard to communicate their brand story in order to build meaningful connections with their audiences

. Below are our other predictions for digital marketing in 2021:

  1. Instagram e-commerce Instagram is already pushing their in-stream shopping capabilities from the Shop tab, but they'll be focusing on e-commerce even more this year, including shoppable Reels. Instagram will try to become a one-stop shop for consumer brands - connecting with customers, advertising, and selling.

  2. Virtual events Virtual events aren't going anywhere. Brands will discover new ways to make these more useful and exciting, with two-way communication and live audience interaction.

  3. Video-based social media networks TikTok has risen to popularity over the past year. With other networks like Twitch on the rise, video-focused social media apps will surpass static status updates and photo feeds.

  4. Social responsibility Buyers are holding brands to higher standards and this will continue post-pandemic. Importance will be placed on sustainability, diversity, and company values.

  5. Influencer marketing Brands no longer need to shell out big bucks for celebrity endorsements. Consumers prefer to see their favorite influencers give a personal, honest reviews of products. With in-store shopping still low, brands will use influencers more than ever.

These are just a few digital marketing trends we expect to see over the next year. What trends do you hope will emerge? Is there anything you'd like to do away with on social media this year?
